Sustainability Criteria

Green Festival Stalls Criteria

Thank you for your interest in supporting Nottingham Green Festival.

The IPCC tells us that climate change has already caused widespread and substantial losses to almost every aspect of human life on this planet, and the impacts on future generations depend on the choices we make NOW.

The Green Festival therefore gived priority to stalls with a *direct* role in tackling the climate & ecological crisis – or mitigating its effects.

The Green Festival has supported, and been supported by, a wide range of groups adopting the broadest definition of ‘green’ inherited from the Peace Festival that preceded it. These stalls that we have come to love will be welcomed to join us again, subject to these criteria.

The mapped placement of stalls enables stalls to share their location with supporters in advance of the event, with details on an online map and directory.

To guide the mapping of the event we will ask stalls for a Sustainability Statement. Statements from 2023 may be found here.

Campaign, charity & political groups should indicate:

– How will the stall be communicating the climate change agenda?

– What activities or learning will be offered?

– Who is the target audience, e.g. ages?

Businesses, caterers and crafters should also indicate:

– How does your business play a positive role in tackling the climate & ecological crisis?

– How will the stall be communicating the climate change agenda?

Stall holders may be invited to participate in Knowledge Garden activities & talks, with possible support from volunteers on their stalls.

All stalls are subject to existing policies to reduce packaging, with no single-use plastic and support for recycling; off-grid, with no generators; no animal products; reduced travel, favouring public transport.

New stalls will be selected to favour those from Nottingham, subject to a quota for each category to ensure a good variety. We encourage green traders and activists in other towns or areas to start their own Green Festivals – we will give advice and support (including example documents) where possible.

The event is oversubscribed and more stalls are queuing so existing stalls will need to book promptly. After a short deadline they will go back into the mix as fresh applications are considered.

Thank you for all your support in previous years and we look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham Green Festival on Sunday 8th September 2024.
